Oral Histories

A place is made special because of its people and Kīlauea is no different! Our town was built around the Kīlauea Sugar Plantation and we are lucky to have some of the descendants of the original families still with us. In an effort to preserve the memories that they have about life on the Plantation, we have started filming the oral histories of these beloved kūpuna (elders) and are making those interviews available for all to enjoy below and on our YouTube Page. Mahalo nui to the families who have allowed us to share their stories!

This mission-driven project is made possible in part by the support of the KIUC Sharing of Aloha program and we are so proud to be able to share these important parts of KÄ«lauea's history with everyone.
